Bekwai Municipality, Ashanti Region –
A farmer, Kwame Gyamfi, has appealed to the government for compensation and intervention after illegal miners, allegedly led by one Tagor, destroyed his farm, valued at GH₵60,000, in the Poano community.
According to reports gathered by Ghnewsnow, Tagor had purchased land from local owners for his mining operations and agreed to compensate affected farmers.
However, he has failed to honor this pledge, leaving Gyamfi and others with significant losses.
Gyamfi, who had acquired knowledge in farming in Dubai to contribute to minimizing youth unemployment, is now facing financial ruin.
He has called on the Ashanti Regional Minister and the government to intervene and provide compensation for his destroyed crops.
In a desperate plea, Gyamfi warned that if the government fails to assist him, he will be forced to discourage Ghanaian youth from farming and instead encourage them to venture into illegal mining.
The incident highlights the devastating impact of illegal mining on local communities and the environment, as well as the need for urgent government action to address this critical issue.
Nana Agyei Baah II, the Chief of Poano, has corroborated the allegations of destruction caused by illegal mining in his community.

In an interview with Ghnewsnow, Nana Agyei Baah II confirmed that the illegal miner, Tagor, had indeed destroyed farms in the area, including that of Kwame Gyamfi, which was valued at GH₵60,000.
The Chief expressed his expectation that Tagor would take responsibility for his actions and provide the necessary compensation to the affected farmers.
