John Mahama Should Retain Prof. Naana Opoku Agtyemang – Dr. John Osae-Kwapong

Dr. John Osae-Kwapong – Fellow, CDD-Ghana

Fellow of the Centre For Democratic Development (CDD), Dr. John Osae-Kwapong says the National Democratic Congress (NDC) would do well to retain Professor Naana Jane Opoku Agyemang as John Mahama’s running mate. Dr. Osae Kwapong says this would have several advantages for the party in the 2024 elections.

Speaking in an interview with Kwesi E. Baako on Radio Kulcha’s Weekend Editorial show, Dr. Osae-Kwapong said it behooves on former President and presidential candidate for the NDC, John Dramani Mahama to keep Prof. Opoku Agyemang because of his own statements about her.

“Because of everything that John Mahama said in the selection of Prof Naana Opoku Agyemang as his running mate in 2020, I hope that he keeps her”, he said.

He further stated that Mr. Mahama is somewhat obliged to retain Professor Opoku Agyemang because of what he himself told Ghanaians about the Professor.

“He talked about her integrity, the role of gender, you know, a whole lot of very positive things. So for me how do you go back and undo that narrative about why she was the best person to run with you and change her in 2024?

He admitted that it is a different era with its own set of challenges but Professor Naana Opoku Agyemang will still be a great choice of running mate for John Mahama.

“The political dynamics may be different and therefore you may feel compelled to do that but i really hope that he keeps her because I think for me it sends a powerful statement about how seriously he took the role of gender and increasing women in our political spaces in an intentional way.”

Dr. Osae-Kwapong predicted that its likely both the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP)  will both pick their running mates from the south.
