Dr Oppong Wadie has called for Africa to secure representation on the United Nations Security Council, arguing that the continent deserves a stronger voice in decisions on global peace and security.
Speaking on Ikulcha TV and Radio Kulcha, Dr Wadie said the United Nations was established at a time when many African countries were still under colonial rule. He noted that the situation has since changed, with African countries now independent states and members of the United Nations.
He therefore argued that Africa’s current status within the international community makes its representation on the Security Council important.
According to him, African countries must intensify efforts to secure a meaningful role in the council and ensure that the continent’s interests are represented in discussions on international security.
“The time is now,” Dr Wadie said, stressing the need for Africa to push for representation on the UN Security Council.
