ECG To Commit More Than GH¢1 Billion To Enhance Power Distribution In The Ashanti Region

The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has reassured customers in the Ashanti Region that it is taking swift steps to upgrade transformers and tackle recent power fluctuations, with improvements expected to begin from May 6.

This move is part of a wider rollout involving 300 new distribution transformers aimed at communities experiencing low voltage due to overloaded systems.

In an interview with Citi News, ECG’s Ashanti West Regional Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Obeng Antwi, revealed that the company is investing more than GH¢1 billion to strengthen electricity supply in the region.

He explained that the upgrades are intended to provide immediate relief to households and businesses affected by unstable power.

Antwi assured customers there is no need for concern, noting that the ongoing upgrade is part of a broader effort to improve service delivery. He referenced recent remarks by the Energy Minister, indicating that government attention is currently focused on the Ashanti Region. He also cited a briefing by ECG’s Managing Director, which highlighted a GH¢1.11 billion investment in the area.

According to him, part of the work includes upgrading conductors from 265 to 400 megawatts to enhance capacity.

ECG says the overall investment forms part of a long-term strategy to boost network strength and ensure a more stable and reliable power supply across the Ashanti Region.
