The General Department of Immigration in Cambodia has released an official directive requiring all African nationals — including citizens of Ghana, Kenya, Cameroon, and Uganda — to leave the country by May 31, 2026, or risk arrest and legal action under the country’s immigration laws.
The notice explained that immigration waivers previously granted to some foreign nationals will expire on May 31, 2026.
It further stated that all foreigners who have settled their immigration fines must depart Cambodia no later than that date.
According to the directive, anyone found entering or remaining in Cambodia from June 1, 2026, onward will face immediate arrest either at the airport or elsewhere in the country. Offenders could be sentenced to up to two years in prison and fined $8,000 before deportation.
The statement also warned that Cambodian police will intensify enforcement operations after the deadline, targeting foreigners who overstay their permits and handing them over to immigration authorities for prosecution.
Authorities say the measure is intended to strengthen immigration compliance, though it is expected to cause concern among affected African communities living and working in Cambodia.
