Only Nation Wreckers Oppose 24-hour economy – Upper East Regional NDC Communications Chief

The Regional Communication Officer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) for the Upper East Region, Abdallah Jonathan Salifu has quizzed critics of the 24-hour economy policy proposed by former president John Dramani Mahama to salvage and turn Ghana’s economic fortunes around.
In an interview, Abdallah Jonathan described those against the policy and its implementation as ‘nation wreckers’.
“Anybody with a rational imagination who thinks that this policy is not a feasible one, is a nation wrecker,” he stated.

He reemphasized that the proposed policy, if implemented, will not only generate more revenue for the state to undertake developmental projects but also address the high rate of unemployment in the country.
He therefore stated that he could not comprehend why anybody would oppose such an idea, which to him, is a game changer.
The idea of a 24-hour economy has dominated public discourse in Ghana after former president and flagbearer of the NDC, John Dramani Mahama, who is seeking to be made president again come 2024, proposed to implement it if he is given the mandate on December 7 to return to the presidency.
The policy, Mr. Mahama said, will create employment opportunities for the teeming unemployed populace and improve security in the country, but his critics; primarily, Vice-President and flagbearer of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has rubbished it, arguing that the policy is already being implemented.
Dr. Bawumia, taking a swipe at the former president said he lacks understanding of the policies he is proposing.
The Vice-President, in videos which subsequently emerged, described the policy idea as a bad one.
Reacting to the criticism, Abdallah Jonathan said, “You see the way he is behaving on platforms? Now, he doesn’t even know what he is saying. In the first place, he said it is happening, he turned around to say it’s a bad policy. And you call yourself the head of the economic management team?”, he jabbed the Vice President.
