Rastas Join In #OccupyBoG Demonstration

A group identifying itself as the NDC Rasta Caucus joined the demonstration calling on the Governor of the Bank of Ghana (BoG), Ernest Addison to resign. The group was visible trooping with the rest of the protestors from the protest grounds through the streets of Accra bearing placards with an assortment of messages for the embattled Governor.

The #OccupyBoG protest comes shortly after another protest against President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo rocked the capital city.

Protestors are seeking the resignation of Mr. Addison after it was reported that the Bank of Ghana, which is primarily tasked with a supervisory role, has incurred a loss of over GHC 60bn; the equivalent of about $6bn. He is also accused of printing billions of cedi notes for the government without parliamentary approval.

Speaking to Ghnewsnow, the national organizer of the NDC Rasta Caucus, Ras Mawuli said the group decided to join the protest because the Rastafari community is very adversely affected by the corruption and recklessness of the government.

“Most of our people are into art and crafts, and now to even get the materials to produce our art and craft is getting out of hand because prices have rise [sic] up”
