Kumasi: Suspected VIP Bus Thief Lynched At Asafo
A man believed to be in his mid-30s has been lynched at Asafo in the Ashanti regional Capital, Kumasi by a mob on Wednesday dawn.
The incident threw the Asafo community into a state of shock following the alleged failed attempt by the young man to steal one of the long buses that use the site as their terminal.
Residents recount that the man attempted with unusual confidence to drive away one of the buses, at an area where nobody believed such an act could happen because of the security.
The deceased was accused of attempting to steal one of the Grand Bird buses with registration number GE-2384 belonging to the V.I.P. Transport Company but luck eluded him leading to the mob attack.

Eyewitness accounts from the scene of the incident indicate that at about 4am today, Wednesday March 8, 2023, the suspect moved the bus and was driving it away but the driver’s mate and concerned members of the public around the area pursued and arrested the alleged thief.
“When the driver and his mate pursued the suspect while driving the stolen bus, upon sensing danger he jumped from the bus. In the process the bus was moving without a driver and started crashing into people and vehicles parked in the garage. But luck eluded the deceased suspect and he was arrested with the support of concerned community members. As usual he was beaten to death. That’s all I can say about the incident’’, the eyewitness told Ghnewsnow.
The suspect was subject to life threatening beatings with objects from all angles and died shortly after the mob attack.
Meanwhile the Asokwa District Police Command has conveyed the lifeless body of the suspect to the morgue for preservation, while police investigations have commenced into the actual circumstances of the incident at Asafo .
