Lawyer Haalem Moro has called for stronger regulation of social media platforms, including TikTok, arguing that greater oversight is needed to address abuse, insults and defamatory content online.
Speaking on iKulcha TV and Radio Kulcha, Dr Moro said the concept of free speech should not be used as a justification for people to attack or defame others on social media.
He expressed concern about the growing misuse of digital platforms, where individuals can make damaging statements about others with little accountability.
According to him, appropriate regulation and enforcement of existing laws could help protect people’s rights while ensuring that freedom of expression is exercised responsibly.
He stressed the need to strike a balance between protecting free speech and preventing the misuse of social media to harass, insult or defame individuals.
