Salifu has explained that under the new amendments to Ghana’s legal education framework, completing legal training will not automatically qualify a person to be called to the Bar.
Speaking on iKulcha TV and Radio Kulcha with Kwesi E Baako, Mr Salifu said prospective lawyers would be required to successfully pass the national Bar examinations before they could be formally called to the Bar.
He explained that while legal training provides the necessary academic and professional preparation, candidates must demonstrate their competence by passing the prescribed national examination.
According to him, the requirement is intended to ensure that only candidates who meet the required professional standards are admitted to practise law.
He said the changes form part of broader efforts to strengthen Ghana’s legal education system and ensure consistency in the assessment and qualification of aspiring lawyers.
Mr Salifu therefore urged prospective law students and trainees to take the new requirements seriously, stressing that completing the training programme would be only one stage in the process towards becoming a qualified legal practitioner.
