Speaking on Ikulcha TV with Kwesi E. Baako, Dr. John Osae Kwapong argued that the National Democratic Congress’ flagship anti‑corruption initiative, ORAL (Operation Recover All Loot), holds promise for restoring public confidence, if it genuinely delivers results.
Dr. Osae Kwapong emphasized that one of the greatest deficits in Ghana’s political economy is not only the misappropriation of public assets, but the perception that wrongdoers go unpunished. He noted that across recent administrations, many Ghanaians have grown cynical:
Against this backdrop, he said, ORAL’s capacity to trace, recover, and restitute looted assets will become a litmus test for the NDC’s credibility.
He laid out a few conditions under which ORAL could meaningfully shift public sentiment:
Open communication about which cases are under investigation, progress made, challenges faced, and timelines for action.
That no individual, regardless of affiliation or office, be immune. Selective justice would undermine gains.
