Ghanaian musician and cultural advocate has explained his decision to celebrate Ghana’s first President, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, in a new song, saying Nkrumah represents the kind of Africa and development he wants to see.
Speaking on Ikulcha TV and Radio Kulcha, Okyeame Kwame said his tribute to Nkrumah was inspired by the former president’s vision for African unity, self-determination and development.
According to the artiste, Nkrumah’s ideas remain relevant to conversations about Africa’s future and the continent’s ability to shape its own development. Nkrumah was a leading advocate of Pan-African unity, and his political writings and speeches repeatedly addressed the need for greater African integration and economic independence.
Okyeame Kwame, whose music has frequently incorporated themes of national development and cultural identity, said the song is intended to keep such ideas alive through music. His official profile describes his work as combining music with advocacy around national development, cultural growth and youth empowerment.
The tribute also reflects the musician’s long-standing interest in using music to promote Ghanaian identity and development. His previous work has similarly been described as advancing a “Made in Ghana” agenda and highlighting Ghanaian culture.
