Kofi Koranteng has argued that the government bears the greatest responsibility in the fight against illegal mining, popularly known as galamsey, questioning how heavy machinery used for the activity enters the country.
Speaking on iKulcha TV and Radio Kulcha with Kwesi E. Baako, Koranteng asked, “Do the machines used for galamsey fly themselves into the country, or do they pass through the port?” He suggested that authorities should strengthen oversight at the country’s ports and entry points to prevent equipment used for illegal mining from reaching operators.
Koranteng maintained that tackling illegal mining requires stronger government action, including stricter enforcement of existing laws and improved monitoring of the importation and movement of heavy equipment used in mining activities.
