At least over 100 students in two basic schools at Zabzugu in the Northern region on Monday, March 28, 2016 have begun taking lessons in an insalubrious condition because their classrooms have been ripped off by rainstorm.

Authorities at the district assembly have declared a state of emergency due to the level of damage caused by the rainstorm
StarrNews has learned that at Lainja D/A Primary school, authorities are compelled to combined the entire school children in two classrooms which was also partially touched by the disaster
The District Chief Executive for the area Issifu Alidu Labandow say the “classes are being congested and there is poor ventilation”
“What the headmasters have done is, they combined, class one will be added to another class and two teachers would teach them; When this one is tired then the next person comes in but actually the classes are being congested and there is poor ventilation; that is why I said emergency”, Hon. Alidu to Tamale Journalist Eliasu Mohammed Tanko.
He said the district assembly was financially constrained to deal with the situation and has written to the Regional NADMO office for aid package
The DCE also revealed that more than 200 residents have been rendered homeless by the disaster.
