Dr. Newlove Asamoah has projected a bold future for Ghana’s poultry sector, urging the nation to imagine producing up to 70% of its chicken consumption locally through the innovative Nkoko Nkiti Nkiti programme.
Speaking in an interview on Ikulcha Radio/TV with host Kwesi E Baako, he emphasized that such an achievement would significantly transform the economy and create widespread employment.
According to Dr. Asamoah, the programme is designed to support smallholder farmers, youth, and rural communities with the resources and training needed to venture into poultry production at competitive levels. He explained that Ghana’s heavy reliance on imported chicken not only strains foreign exchange but also suppresses local job opportunities.
He noted that if theNkoko Nkiti Nkiti initiative is fully scaled, the ripple effects would be immense—expanding jobs in hatcheries, feed production, veterinary services, processing plants, transportation, and retail. “This is a chance to build a vibrant poultry industry that employs thousands and keeps wealth within our communities,” he stated.
He said producing 70% of Ghana’s chicken locally is not just a dream, it’s an achievable pathway to economic empowerment and job creation.
