Manhyia Fines Lumba’s (Abusuapanin) Family Head 2 Sheep Over ‘Great Oath’ Invocation

The Manhyia Palace punished Kofi Owusu, the family head of the late highlife legend Charles Kwadwo Fosu, also known as Daddy Lumba, two sheep after Ernestina Akosua Bimpomaa, the musician’s sister, invoked the Great Oath of the Asantehene.

The incident happened on Tuesday, October 28, 2025, during a court hearing in a case brought by Akosua Serwaa, the late artist Charles Kwadwo Fosuh’s first wife, contesting who should be acknowledged as his legal spouse.

Ernestina Akosua Bimpomaa, Daddy Lumba’s sister, invoked the Great Oath (Ntam Késseň) during the court procedures, forcing the case to be sent to the Manhyia Palace for traditional adjudication as required by Asante custom and tradition.

Abusuapanin Kofi Owusu was penalized two sheep for failing to refute the late musician’s sister’s invocation of the Great Oath during the hearing held at the Manhyia Palace by the Saamanhene and other chiefs.

Asante custom and tradition dictate that cases pertaining to the Great Oath must be settled in Manhyia Palace because courts lack the authority to do so.

To rescind the oath and prevent any possible spiritual consequences, the chiefs were to employ the sheep in purifying rites.

In the meanwhile, additional court proceedings are anticipated on November 12, 2025.
