Chairman Wontumi’s bail hearing adjourned to November 4, remains in custody

Ashanti Regional Chairman Of New Patriotic Party Benard Antwi Boasiako

The bail application hearing of former New Patriotic Party (NPP) Ashanti Regional Chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, has been adjourned to November 4, 2026.

The adjournment means Chairman Wontumi will remain in custody until the next scheduled court hearing, pending any further orders from the court.

His lawyers are seeking bail to secure his release while he pursues an appeal against his conviction and 20-year prison sentence for illegal mining-related offences linked to a concession at Samreboi in the Western Region.

The Attorney-General has opposed the bail application, arguing that the former NPP regional chairman poses a flight risk.

The court is expected to hear further arguments from both sides when the matter resumes on November 4, 2026.
