Chairman Butey Will Not Pursue Threat To Sue The Party – NPP New York Chairman

Frank Antwi – Chairman, NPP- New York

Chairman of the New York chapter of the New Patriotic Party, Frank Antwi has said he believes the former acting Chairman of the party will not follow through with his threat to take the party to court over the implementation of the 14-point amendment instituted by the party during its recent delegate conference.

Chairman Butey ; he is like an uncle to me, I respect (him) so much, he knows that once conference is done, we are done

He said the former chairman understands that the national conference has ultimate authority and will not follow through with the lawsuit even though he has publicly stated he is taking the matter to court.

“Chairman Butey ; he is like an uncle to me, I respect (him) so much, he knows that once conference is done, we are done”.

He said he would rather focus on the successful organization of the conference which depicts the party in in lockstep and united to challenge the National Democratic Congress (NPP) for political power in 2028.

“I don’t think he is going to go ahead with whatever he said previously about the conference”, he added.

Mr. Antwi was speaking on iKulcha TV and Radio Kulcha over the weekend with host Kwesi E. Baako.

Outgone Acting National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Joseph Danquah Smith Butey (aka Chairman Butey), has threatened to sue the party if constitutional amendments adopted at the October 3, 2026, National Delegates Conference in Kumasi are integrated into its constitution.

During the National Delegates Conference held at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi, delegates approved 14 constitutional amendments—including making the elected presidential candidate (flagbearer) the leader of the party.

Butey maintained that he had announced during the conference that the party could not proceed with the amendments and argues that his directive to defer them remained valid under his tenure. He stated he is ready to face suspension or removal, claiming he is protecting party member rights.

Some NPP officials and members however have pushed back, stating that Butey had no right to halt the amendments unilaterally and that ultimate authority rests with the national conference, not an individual chairman.

Show host Kwesi Baako questioned if the amedment will be valid without the signature of the outgone Chairman who was at the time the leader of the party and whose endorsement is required to make any such amendments hold relevance.
