Asante Akim North MP Ohene Kwame Frimpong To Face Dutch Court In 48 hours

The Member of Parliament for Asante Akim North in Ghana’s Ashanti Region, Kwame Ohene Frimpong, is expected to appear before a Dutch court within the next 48 hours after being detained at Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport.

He was arrested on Sunday, May 8, on allegations related to money laundering and suspected involvement in romance scam-related activities.

Sources say he intends to contest the legality of both his arrest and continued detention when he appears before the court.

His arrest was officially confirmed in a statement from the Clerk to Parliament, Ebenezer Ahumah Djietror, who noted that Parliament had been notified and is in contact with Ghana’s diplomatic mission in The Hague to obtain further details.

The statement further indicated that the Speaker of Parliament and parliamentary leadership are working closely with the mission to clarify the circumstances surrounding the detention of the Independent MP for Asante Akim North.

Meanwhile, Majority Chief Whip Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor has assured that the MP is safe, in stable condition, and has not been mistreated while in custody.
