Benin Invades Ghana With 5-Day Cultural Expo

The Aquarian Rising Cultural Foundation, Drum + Gong and the Mpese Royal Family of Ga Mashie present an event to  outdoor the cultural and ethnic  ties between  the peoples of Ghana and Benin. 

The event, comprises a Visit to Ghana by the Mayor of the Municipality of Adjarra, Oueme, Republic of Benin Germain Sourou Wanvoegbe, from the 18th to the 22nd August 2022. It is a sub-regional cultural exchange initiative between the people of Ghana and the Municipality of Adjarra, Oueme Department, Republic of Benin.

The 5 day event is the maiden edition of an annual cross-cultural exchange program under the theme: ‘Fostering Sub-Regional Co-operation through Arts and Culture ‘ at selected event locations in Accra and the Akuapim Mountains.

The week long event provides different platforms for both countries to exchange their unique cultures, identify commonalities and utilize their cultures as low hanging fruits for nation building.

For the first time in the history of Ghana, Egungun (Ancestral Masquerade Performers) and Zangbetor (raffia mounds that move on their own without being occupied) will be making a historic visit to Ghana. This is a unique opportunity for the peoples of both countries as well as those in the diaspora, especially those that identify with the cultural and ancestral roots of Benin can witness and part-take in an original unadulterated event. 

“It promises to be the experience of a lifetime for  most who attend… I’m sure”, Mr. Peter Gyewu-Kyem, one of the organizers who also doubles as the Arts and Cultural Ambassador of Adjarra, Republic of Benin, told Ghnewsnow.
