The scheduled court hearing for Thomas Partey on allegations of sexual assault and rape has been postponed until September 15.
The case was relocated from the Old Bailey to Southwark Crown Court, where the 32-year-old was originally expected to appear on September 2.
He faces a charge of sexual assault against a third woman in addition to five counts of rape against two other women.
The alleged offenses occurred between 2021 and 2022 while he was a member of Arsenal, a club in north London.
His contract terminated at the end of June, and he was charged four days after leaving Arsenal.
The adjournment, however, dispels any uncertainty regarding Partey’s participation in Ghana’s World Cup qualifying.
After selecting the midfield player for the 24-man squad for the forthcoming games against Chad and Mali, the Ghana FA said he was “in the right frame of mind and in top shape.”
As the Black Stars leave Ghana for N’Djamena on Tuesday afternoon, Partey has already joined the team.
On Thursday, September 4, Ghana will play Chad at the Stade Olympique Maréchal Idriss Déby Itno.
After six games, the Black Stars are leading Group I and aiming for their fifth FIFA World Cup berth.
