The Chief Justice, Paul Baffoe-Bonnie, has ruled that there is no prima facie case to justify further investigations into petitions seeking the removal of the Electoral Commissioner, her deputies, and the Special Prosecutor.
In a statement released by the Presidency on Wednesday, February 18, 2026, John Dramani Mahama disclosed that seven petitions requesting the removal of the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission of Ghana, Jean Mensa, along with her deputies, had been forwarded to the Chief Justice for review. Additionally, three separate petitions seeking the removal of the Office of the Special Prosecutor head, Kissi Agyebeng, were also referred for determination.
The statement noted that the petitions were submitted to the Chief Justice on November 25, 2025. Subsequently, in a letter dated January 26, 2026, the Chief Justice informed the President that the petitions failed to establish a prima facie case warranting further inquiry or removal proceedings against the Electoral Commissioner, her deputies, or the Special Prosecutor.
The statement was signed by Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Spokesperson to the President and Minister for Government Communications.
This decision effectively brings the current process regarding the petitions to a close, at least for now, as no further action will be taken against the officials involved.
