Economist Dr. Newlove Asamoah stated on Ikulcah Radio/TV with host Kwesi E Baako that Ghana’s 2026 budget, read in Parliament by Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, is successfully structured to create more jobs.
In his assessment, the policy signals a deliberate shift from only stabilizing the economy toward inclusive growth and employment expansion.
Speaking on-air, Dr. Asamoah praised the job-creation ambition at the core of the budget. He argued that by targeting productive sectors like infrastructure, manufacturing, and agriculture, the government’s plan is not just about growth on paper, it is about giving Ghanaians concrete opportunities to work and build sustainable livelihoods.
Indeed, during his presentation in Parliament on Thursday, Finance Minister Forson revealed that the 2026 Budget, themed “Resetting for Growth, Jobs, and Economic Transformation” aims to generate up to 800,000 new jobs.
Forson detailed how these jobs would be created: about 490,000 roles are expected to come from government road contracts under its “Big Push” infrastructure programme.
He added that three new garment factories will yield over 20,000 direct jobs, while seven agro-processing plants and a national oil-palm development policy will support thousands more across Ghana’s value chains.
Dr. Asamoah’s commentary underlines a strong alignment with the Finance Ministry’s vision: leveraging targeted public investment to rapidly scale up employment and support broad-based economic transformation.
If implemented effectively, his analysis suggests, the budget could help turn Ghana’s post-stabilization gains into lasting economic opportunity.
