Following the death of former First Lady Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, the Ghanaian government has proclaimed three days of national mourning. The time of mourning will be observed from Friday, October 24, to Sunday, October 26, 2025, according to the announcement made by President John Dramani Mahama on Friday.
In honor of the late former First Lady, President Mahama ordered all national flags to be flown at half-mast at government buildings, diplomatic missions, and public institutions in Ghana and overseas, according to a statement released on the government’s behalf.
As First Lady from 1981 until 2001, Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings was well-known for spearheading the 31st December Women’s Movement, which promoted social development, child welfare, and women’s empowerment.
Particularly during a time when Ghana’s democratic processes were developing, her advocacy influenced the direction of policies regarding women’s rights and economic participation.
