On Thursday, August 7, 2025, the Presidency honored the eight people who perished in Wednesday’s terrible military helicopter crash in the Adansi Akrofuom District of the Ashanti Region with a sorrowful wreath-laying ceremony at the Ceremonial Gardens of Jubilee House.
Two senior government officials, Defense Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah and Environment Minister Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, as well as senior military personnel and party officials participated in the ceremony, which was part of a three-day national mourning period that the government had announced to honor the memory of the deceased.
The National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia, Vice President Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyeman, Chief of Staff Julius Debrah, members of the Council of State, family members, friends, government officials, members of the security services, and members of the general public were all present at the symbolic event and laid wreaths in remembrance of the fallen.
The “Evening of Reflections and Memorials” at the State House’s Forecourt will mark the conclusion of the nationwide mourning, which will last until Saturday, August 9.
In the next several days, the state funeral and burial plans should be revealed.
A Ghana Armed Forces plane crashed in the Ashanti Region, killing Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Muhammad, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, the defense minister, and six other people.
Two high-ranking government officials were among the dead: Dr. Murtala Muhammed, Minister of Environment, Science, Technology, and Innovation and Member of Parliament for Tamale Central; and Dr. Omane Boamah, Minister of Defense.
Other victims include Dr. Samuel Sarpong, National Democratic Congress (NDC) National Vice Chairman; former parliamentary candidate Samuel Aboagye; and Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator Alhaji Limuna Muniru Mohammed.
