Veteran journalist and political commentator Kwesi E. Baako has thrown strong support behind former New Patriotic Party (NPP) National Chairman Paul Afoko, describing him as “the most credible candidate to restore unity, discipline, and trust within the party.
Baako made these remarks during his Ikulcha Radio and TV show, where he assessed the current dynamics within the NPP ahead of its national executive elections.
According to Baako, the upcoming national chairmanship contest presents the party with a crucial opportunity to rebuild its internal cohesion, which he believes has been weakened in recent years. For him, Paul Afoko stands out as the one candidate capable of bridging factional divides and repositioning the NPP for long-term harmony
Baako, known for his forthright commentary, dismissed narratives that have in the past cast Afoko as a polarizing figure within the NPP. Instead, he argued that the former chairman’s track record demonstrates the opposite.
He also noted that Afoko’s earlier leadership style was anchored in transparency, rule of law, and respect for party structures, qualities he believes the NPP urgently needs restored.
One of Baako’s strongest points was that Afoko has the moral and political capital to renew public confidence in the NPP. He argued that the party’s credibility deficit, stemming from internal conflicts, unresolved disputes, and perceived lack of accountability, requires the leadership of someone with Afoko’s resilience and integrity.
