NPP Begins Steps To Expel Professor Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has initiated official steps to expel former Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, Professor Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng, over comments he made in a recent television interview in which he described the party as “fake” and questioned its commitment to internal democracy.

In a statement issued by the party’s General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, the NPP said it had taken note of remarks made by Prof Frimpong-Boateng on Channel One TV on Monday, 12 January 2026. During the interview, the former minister openly declared that he no longer regards himself as a member of the party.

The statement further indicated that Prof Frimpong-Boateng made what the party termed “derogatory remarks” about the NPP and alleged that the 2023 presidential primary was manipulated in favour of former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, the party’s flagbearer for the 2024 general elections.

“The Party categorically rejects Professor Frimpong-Boateng’s unfortunate description of the NPP and strongly refutes his unfounded and unproven claims concerning the conduct of the 2023 Presidential Primary,” the statement noted.

The NPP emphasized that the primary was conducted in a free, fair, transparent, and credible manner, and that its outcome was accepted by all contestants who took part in the race.

Describing Prof Frimpong-Boateng’s actions as “deeply regrettable and contrary to the values, unity, and integrity of the Party,” the NPP said his public pronouncements threaten internal harmony and discipline.

As a result, the party said it has activated the appropriate provisions of its constitution to begin the process of expelling him, assuring that all steps will be carried out in line with established procedures and due process.
