The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has prohibited delegates from using mobile phones close to voting booths during its presidential primaries, a move aimed at preventing the taking of photographs after voting and protecting the credibility of the exercise.
The directive was announced by the Secretary of the NPP Presidential Elections Committee, Mr. William Yamoah, who said the party has put in place detailed arrangements to guarantee a free, fair, and transparent process.
Speaking ahead of the polls, Mr. Yamoah indicated that the Electoral Commission (EC) has finalized all logistical preparations for the primaries scheduled for Saturday. He explained that essential materials, including ballot papers and voter albums—which serve as the register—have been printed and distributed nationwide.
According to him, voting will officially start at 7:00 a.m. and close at 2:00 p.m., after which counting will begin immediately.
Mr. Yamoah also outlined the identification requirements for delegates, stating that voters must present a valid party ID card, Ghana Card, EC voter ID, or passport. Although the driver’s licence is not part of the official requirements, he noted that it will still be accepted if presented.
He further disclosed that the voting centres have been organised into three security zones to ensure order and accountability. These include the outer perimeter, a middle security layer, and the inner perimeter where voting will take place.
Before accessing the inner perimeter, delegates will be screened by queue control officers and police, who will verify their details against the voters’ register. A final verification will also be conducted at the inner perimeter before ballot papers are issued.
Mr. Yamoah stressed that security personnel will be on hand throughout the exercise and reiterated that no delegate will be allowed to enter the voting area with a mobile phone after casting their vote, in line with the party’s rules to protect the integrity of the process.
