Multichoice Ghana Limited has been informed by the National Communications Authority (NCA) that it will be suspending its authorization to offer subscription management services for Ghanaian satellite television programming.
The NCA claimed Section 13 of the Electronic Communications Act, 2008 (Act 775) as the legal justification for the action in a news statement dated August 7, 2025. Concerns regarding Multichoice Ghana’s pricing strategy, which it deems “inimical to the public interest,” prompted the decision, the regulator clarified.
Although the statement omitted specifics, the NCA claims that the company’s pricing strategy prompted regulatory action.
The NCA has granted Multichoice Ghana a 30-day window to respond. Within this period, the company can present its position, offer remedial measures, and submit a formal written objection to the planned suspension.
The NCA is the statutory body responsible for licensing and regulating electronic communication activities in the country.
The outcome of this case could have significant implications for Ghana’s pay-TV landscape, particularly for DSTV and GOtv subscribers, both of which are operated under the Multichoice brand.
