Journalist Nana Jantuah has shared his views on the state of media freedom in Ghana under President John Mahama, one year into his administration. Speaking on Ikulcha Radio/TV with host Kwesi E Baako, Jantua stated that the media space has seen a notable shift in how security agencies are expected to engage with journalists.

According to Nana Jantua, President Mahama has taken a clearer stance on media protection, claiming that the President has issued warnings to the military and security services “not to touch the media” in the course of their duties.

He described this as a positive signal that the current administration recognizes the essential role of journalists in a democratic society.

Jantua added that although challenges still exist, such statements from the presidency contribute to a safer environment for journalists to operate without fear of intimidation or harassment.

He emphasized that continued advocacy and accountability are needed to ensure that such directives translate into real protection on the ground.
