Lawyer Moses Foh Amoaning Links Mahama’s Silence on Anti-Gay Bill to Political Rhetoric Shift

Lawyer and social commentator Moses Foh Amoaning has attributed President John Dramani Mahama’s continued inaction on Ghana’s controversial anti-gay bill to what he describes as a shift in political rhetoric.

Speaking on Ikulcha Radio and TV in an interview with  Kwesi E. Baako, Amoaning argued that the President’s posture reflects changing political calculations rather than a lack of public awareness of the issue.

According to Amoaning, the anti-gay bill, formally known as the Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill, enjoys broad grassroots support, making prolonged silence from the executive increasingly difficult to justify. He suggested that President Mahama’s cautious approach may be influenced by international pressure, diplomatic considerations, and a desire to strike a balance between domestic public opinion and Ghana’s global image.

Amoaning emphasized that leadership, in his view, requires clarity and consistency, especially on matters that touch on cultural values and national sovereignty. He urged the government to be forthright about its position and to respect the sentiments of citizens who expect decisive action on the bill.
