Joe Osei Owusu, Chairman of the New Patriotic Party’s Elections Committee, has clarified why former President John Agyekum Kufuor was absent from the signing of the party’s peace pact.
He explained that the former president was unwell at the time, which accounted for his inability to attend the ceremony ahead of the January 31, 2026, election. Speaking on Accra-based Asempa FM, Mr. Owusu noted that arrangements have been made for him and the committee’s secretary to visit President Kufuor at his residence to present the document for his signature.
The New Patriotic Party is scheduled to hold its internal election on January 31, 2026, to select a flagbearer for the 2028 general elections.
Five aspirants are in the race for the position, among them Dr. Bryan Acheampong, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Dr. Yaw Adutwum, and Ing. Kwabena Agyepong.
