Koforidua DVLA Roundabout To Be Renamed After Omane Boamah

The Eastern Regional Minister, Rita Akosua Awatey, has revealed plans to rename and redevelop the DVLA Roundabout in Koforidua in memory of the late former Minister for Defence, Dr. Edward Kofi Omane Boamah.

Speaking on the life and achievements of the late statesman, the Regional Minister explained that the initiative is intended to preserve Dr. Omane Boamah’s legacy and acknowledge his significant contributions to national development, particularly in the Eastern Region.

She also disclosed that she, alongside the Minister for Education, Haruna Iddrisu, recently paid a courtesy visit to the late minister’s mother at her home in Koforidua as part of activities to honour his memory.

According to Madam Awatey, Dr. Omane Boamah was an exemplary leader and a proud son of the Eastern Region whose commitment to public service, especially in his role as Minister for Defence, earned him widespread admiration across the country.

As part of the commemorative efforts, the Eastern Regional Coordinating Council, working with the Ministry of Transport, will undertake a comprehensive re-engineering of the DVLA Roundabout. Upon completion, the landmark will be renamed the Dr. Omane Boamah Roundabout.

She noted that the redesigned roundabout will serve as a lasting tribute to patriotism, leadership, and selfless service, while motivating young people in the region to dedicate themselves to national service with integrity and commitment.

The Regional Minister expressed hope that the project would continually inspire residents, particularly the youth, to recognize that hard work and dedication to the nation can leave a lasting legacy.

She concluded by stating that the Eastern Region will forever remember Dr. Omane Boamah as one of its most distinguished sons.
