
President John Dramani Mahama has put forward five nominees to serve on Ghana’s Fiscal Council as part of efforts to reinforce fiscal discipline and strengthen oversight of public finances.
The announcement was made in a statement issued on Wednesday, April 8, by Felix Kwakye Ofosu, who serves as Spokesperson to the President and Minister for Government Communications.
According to the statement, the nominations were made in line with Section 11D of the Public Financial Management Act, 2016 (Act 921), as amended by the Public Financial Management (Amendment) Act, 2025 (Act 1136).
The Fiscal Council is expected to play a key role in enhancing transparency, accountability, and sound economic decision-making in the management of public finances.
Heading the list of nominees is Dr. Emmanuel Oteng Kumah, who has been designated as Chairperson. He will be joined by Professor Patrick Opoku Asuming, representing academia with his extensive background in economic research and policy analysis.
Also nominated is Leslie Dwight Mensah, who will represent a research think tank, bringing a policy-focused perspective to the Council.
The remaining nominees include J. Kweku Bedu-Addo, a former public policy expert at the Finance Ministry, and Dr. Henry Akpenamawu Kofi Wampah, who previously served as a public policy expert at the Bank of Ghana.
