Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu made the announcement during a media briefing on Wednesday, April 1, providing details of the upcoming recruitment exercise.

The Minister confirmed that the application process will officially begin on April 10, 2026, when the recruitment portal opens to qualified candidates.

“I am pleased to announce that the Ministry of Education has received approval from the Ministry of Finance for the nationwide recruitment of teachers. We will be hiring at least 7,000 teachers. The process will be open, transparent, and competitive,” he stated.

He added that graduates from the 2023, 2024, and 2025 cohorts are eligible to apply, with preference given to candidates willing to work in deprived and hard-to-reach areas.

The recruitment drive is expected to create employment opportunities for thousands of trained teachers while ensuring a more equitable distribution of teaching staff across the country.

In recent years, concerns have grown over imbalances in teacher deployment, with rural and underserved communities experiencing severe shortages, even as trained teachers in urban areas struggle to find placements.
