Ghanaian Media Men Are Not Paid Well; Few Earn Good Salaries, Leading Many to Align With Political Parties – Nana Kwadwo Jantuah

Media personality Nana Kwadwo Jantuah has sparked conversation about the state of journalism in Ghana during an appearance on Ikulcha Radio/TV with host Kwesi E Baako, where he highlighted the persistent problem of low remuneration in the industry.

According to Jantuah, the financial realities for many Ghanaian media practitioners are harsh. He noted that only a small fraction of media professionals earn sustainable salaries, while the majority struggle to make a living from their work. This situation, he argued, creates vulnerabilities within the profession.

Jantuah suggested that the poor compensation structure is one of the key reasons some media workers gravitate toward political parties or become aligned with political interests. In his view, such alignments are often driven less by ideology and more by economic survival.

He emphasized that the issue should be a national concern, as a financially strained media landscape affects not only journalists but also the quality of information, independence, and integrity that the public relies on.
