Ghana Donating 40 Metric Tonnes Of Cocoa Products to Palestine In Solidarity Is A Significant Gesture – Dr Kwadwo Oppong Wadie

Dr. Kwadwo Oppong Wadie, a respected educationist, framed Ghana’s gift of 40 metric tonnes of premium cocoa products to Palestine not merely as humanitarian aid, but as a deeply symbolic gesture rooted in history, culture, and ethical solidarity.

Dr. Wadie noted that on August 1, 2025, President John Dramani Mahama presented Golden Tree-branded cocoa and chocolate products to Ambassador Abdul Fattah Ahmed Khalil al‑Sattari, emphasizing that the gesture combined symbolism with practical nourishment

Dr Wadie, speaking on Radio Kulcha with Kwesi E Baako, said Cocoa embodies resilience, warmth, and a spirit of generosity.” He highlighted Ghana’s status as the world’s second‑largest cocoa producer and how the gesture speaks to a deeper philosophy of shared humanity and Pan‑African empathy.

Beyond symbolism, cocoa was described as a superfood, rich in antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals, essential for the diets of vulnerable populations, especially women and children in Gaza. Dr. Wadie noted the intent was to deliver both comfort and nutritional value amid a backdrop of food insecurity.

Dr. Wadie also underscored the historical diplomatic ties between Ghana and Palestine, tracing back to 1986, when the Palestinian Liberation Organization opened an office in Accra. He viewed the donation as a reaffirmation of Ghana’s longstanding support for a two‑state solution and the pursuit of peace through dialogue

The Palestinian Ambassador reportedly expressed that the donation would bring joy even before the cocoa was consumed: “If they only see the chocolate, it will bring happiness; if they taste it, even more.” Dr. Wadie interpreted this as proof of the powerful human connection forged through small acts of compassion.
