Former Roads Minister Asenso Boakye Explains Why 3-Year Deadline for Express Road Project Was Not Realistic

Former Roads Minister Asenso Boakye has clarified that the projected three-year timeline for completing an express road project was not realistic, citing the absence of feasibility studies at the time the estimate was made.

Speaking on Ikulcha Radio/TV with Kwesi E. Baako, the former minister noted that the project had been announced before the necessary technical assessments were carried out. According to him, without feasibility studies, including engineering designs, cost analyses, and environmental impact assessments, any completion timeline would be speculative.

Asenso Boakye explained that feasibility studies form the foundation of accurate project scheduling and budgeting. Without them, he said, government officials risk giving timelines that cannot be met, which can lead to public disappointment and unnecessary controversy.

He emphasized the need for infrastructure projects to follow proper procedural steps to ensure credibility, efficiency, and value for money. The absence of initial studies, he suggested, is what made the three-year completion estimate unrealistic.
