Double Standards Must Be Checked – Kwesi E. Baako Slams Captain Smart

Kwesi E Baako

Kwesi E. Baako of Kulcha Radio has taken a swipe at popular television and radio personality, Captain Smart, over what he describes as growing double standards in his approach to journalism and social commentary.

Speaking on his show last sunday, Baako expressed deep concern over what he sees as inconsistencies and self-righteous posturing in Captain Smart’s recent criticisms of government and political figures. While he acknowledged Captain Smart’s courage and talent as a broadcaster, Baako warned that the media personality’s rising popularity may be getting to his head.

“Captain Smart is good at what he does. I won’t take that away from him. But there are clear double standards in how he’s conducting himself these days,” Baako noted. “It’s as if he thinks he is above scrutiny or immune to accountability, and that’s dangerous in any media space.”

Kwesi Baako further reminded Ghanaians of past comments made by Captain Smart, particularly during the John Mahama administration, which sharply contrast with his current tone. He questioned the moral consistency of the broadcaster, pointing out that not long ago, Captain Smart was among the loudest voices accusing former President Mahama of corruption and owning houses in Dubai.

“Is this not the same Captain Smart who accused Mahama of stealing money and building houses in Dubai?” Baako asked pointedly. “Today, he acts as though he never made such claims, or as though his words carry no consequences.”

Baako’s comments come amid renewed debates over the role of the media in Ghana’s political discourse, particularly the responsibility of prominent media figures to maintain objectivity, consistency, and accountability in their work.

While Captain Smart has built a reputation for confronting power and fearlessly voicing out societal concerns, critics like Baako warn that such influence should be exercised with principle, not pride.
