D’Editorial [07/22/25] – By Their Fruit, Ye Shall Know Them; The NPP’s Feckless Opposition To Gov’t

Good day, My name is Kwesi Eswuon Baako. Welcome to D’Editorial.

For this week’s consideration: The NPP’s Juvenile Approach To Opposing Government

In the past month or so, we have witnessed 3 walkouts by the opposition NPP in parliament. The same minority whose presence would hardly make a difference anyway. And instead of staying and working for the people who sent them to the august house, they instead expend their energies in infantile walkouts and proganda-based politicking. I think these guys should be invoiced on an hourly basis. Then they will learn that not showing up in comes with a price.

But please indulge me to quote some scripture this morning.

Open your bibles to the book of Matthew chapter 7 verses 16 to 20. I read:

16 Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles?

17 Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit.

18 A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit.

19 Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.

20 Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them.

19 Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.

20 Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them.

What fruit is the current NPP made of? Terrible in government and even worse in opposition. This party which sank our economy, destroyed our agencies, legalized corruption for some; emphasis on some; party members and close cronies.

This government which dragged our national cohesion in the mud, showed the utmost disrespect to our traditional authorities and overall made us a laughing stock among the community of nations, now have an idea for everything the current government is doing. But at least make it make sense.

These bunch of feckless side-drums have something to say about issues Ghanaians themselves welcome. These guys opposed fuel price reduction for crying out loud! But what ‘cuts my intestine’ to borrow the Twi phrase, is the recent walk out during the mid year budget review.

These guys who are being paid with your taxes and mine, drove out of parliament where they are needed in a convoy to go to the Dean of Foreign Embassies, to do what??? To protest electoral violence… for real?? Of all things?? Wow

I have already condemned the Ablekuma violence in no uncertain terms; sitting right where I sit today, but let us face it fellow Ghanaians, if one flying head-butt equates to all these walkouts, then the NDC should hardly have been present at any sitting in the past 8 years. Because during that period, 8 people WERE SHOT DEAD by quasi government functionaries; a judge was assaulted while sitting over a case and the perpetrators were hailed by someone who is pitching to be president today. Several constituencies were left unrepresented for 4 solid years; a member of parliament was assaulted, another murdered, press freedom was affected adversely as media men were killed and jailed.

And these are the guys who are boycotting an important event like the mid year budget review to go whimpering to complain about something they are much worse at.

So let us all examine this tree; the tree that bore no fruit in 8 years, the tree that was hewn down by the Ghanaian voter and instead of staying down, possibly to re-germinate and provide reasonable, sensible and pragmatic opposition to help build the nation, all they do is commit one blunder after the other, cementing their place in perpetual opposition.

By their fruit, we have seen and know them and we will always be awake to their shenanigans. Ghana deserves good governance; not whimsical politicking.

My name is Kwesi Eswuon Baako, I come in Peace, I come not to please. Next week, God willing, we will be back.
