Political analyst Ivan Kyei Innocent has urged the public to exercise caution in describing former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta as a criminal, despite his name featuring prominently in ongoing criminal financial investigations.
Speaking on Ikucha, a current affairs programme hosted by Kwesi E. Baako, Ivan stressed the importance of respecting due process and the presumption of innocence.
According to Ivan Kyei Innocent, while multiple financial probes are underway, no court of law has yet found Ken Ofori-Atta guilty of any offence. For that reason, he argued, it would be inappropriate and unfair to label him a criminal at this stage. However, Ivan was clear that the former finance minister is not a peripheral figure in the investigations, describing him as a “big point of interest” due to the key role he played in managing the country’s finances.
The conversation on Ikulcha centered on accountability, transparency, and the need for state institutions to be allowed to carry out their work without political pressure or public prejudgment. Ivan emphasized that allowing investigators to follow the evidence wherever it leads will ultimately strengthen public trust in the justice system.
