Media personality and cultural advocate Kwesi E Baako has shared his thoughts about artistry and authenticity in Ghana’s music industry.
Speaking passionately on the show, Baako reminded viewers that Bob Marley, one of the most influential musicians the world has ever known, never won a GRAMMY Award during his lifetime, yet his impact remains unmatched.
Baako highlighted this fact to challenge the growing obsession with awards, trends, and validation from international platforms. According to him, Marley’s legacy proves that true greatness is built on originality, message, and cultural identity, not trophies.
He encouraged Ghanaian musicians to take a cue from Marley’s journey by protecting their unique sound, storytelling traditions, and cultural influences. Baako noted that while global recognition is valuable, it should not come at the expense of originality.
He said when you dilute your craft to chase trends, you lose the very thing that could have made you stand out.
Many artists face pressure to conform to global market demands, but Baako’s message serves as a reminder that cultural pride and artistic truth can outlive any award, just as Bob Marley’s music continues to inspire the world decades later.
