Popular pan-Africanist and host on Kulcha Radio, Kwesi E Baako, has publicly criticized the growing trend of politicians and so-called celebrities failing to honour scheduled radio and TV interviews without prior notice, describing it as a disrespectful and arrogant act that undermines media professionalism.
In a passionate monologue during his show over the weekend, Kwesi E Baako did not mince words, taking direct aim at public figures who agree to interviews but later fail to show up—or cancel at the last minute—without the courtesy of informing the media houses involved.
“This is not about ego or fame. It’s about respect for the platform, for the listeners, and for the media professionals who prepare and plan these engagements,” he said.
Kwesi called out what he described as “arrogance disguised as stardom”, accusing some celebrities and politicians of believing they are too important to be held accountable for their absence. He noted that in many cases, producers and hosts spend days preparing for these interviews, only to be left in the dark when the guest fails to appear.
He urged public figures to treat media platforms with the same level of professionalism they expect from journalists and broadcasters. He advised that if guests are unable to attend interviews, they should simply communicate in advance out of basic respect.
Kwesi E Baako ended his statement by reminding public figures that media engagement is a two-way street:
