A Legal Saga Ends: Daddy Lumba Wives To Perform Widowhood Rites Together

The Kumasi High Court on Friday, 28 November 2025 delivered its final verdict in the much-watched widowhood dispute surrounding the late highlife legend, Daddy Lumba (real name Charles Kwadwo Fosuh). The ruling ends weeks of legal wrangling after his death in July 2025.

The dispute centred on two women: Akosua Serwaa Fosuh,  who claimed to be the late musician’s legally wedded wife under German civil law, and Priscilla Ofori Atta (widely known as “Odo Broni”)  who claimed to be his customary-law wife and had for months been recognised by some family members as performing traditional spouse duties.

Akosua Serwaa had filed a suit, asking the court to declare her the sole surviving spouse, and thereby the only woman entitled to perform the widowhood rites, burial ceremonies, and related funeral-estate entitlements

In short: the legal tussle has ended, and both women have the right to participate in the customary widowhood rituals set for 13th Dec 2025.

The verdict resolves months of tension between statutory (civil) marriage laws, on one hand, and traditional (customary) family practices on the other,  a recurring flashpoint in Ghana’s legal and social fabric.

The ruling provides a framework for how the late singer’s estate, burial rites, traditional customs, and entitlements should be managed, preventing further legal ambiguity or public wrangling.
