2 NDC Stalwarts And Their Team Narrowly Escape Death

Director of Elections for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Elvis Afriyie Ankrah and Mad. Betty Crosby Mensah, Member of Parliament for the Afram Plains North Constituency; together with their team narrowly escaped death  as  they travelled on the Volta River on an outreach mission.

Speaking with Ghnewsnow  in  an Exclusive interview,  Mr. Afriyie-Ankrah said the two party stalwarts and their team set off to Dodi Island together with the Constituency Executives on April 27, 2022.  The delegation included Kwame Lawson – National Organizer of the Cadres front, Hackman Kabore – Eastern Regional Organiser, Prosper Galino – Constituency Chairman, Tahidu Mohammed – Constituency Secretary and Senyo Adinkyira – Constituency Organiser.

Mr. Afriyie Ankrah said when they got to Nywinywii also known as Adjokatse, they boarded a medium sized boat to the first destination; Dodi Island, in the Afram Plains North District.

About an hour after departing Dodi Island, they were transferred from the medium sized boat into a much bigger boat at an Island called ‘Congo‘.

Mr. Afryiyie Ankrah said, as custom demanded, a community entry was undertaken to establish rapport with the Chief, Elders and members of the community when the team arrived. He recounted their memorable experience at the Island, especially the warm reception at the Chief’s Palace and the prayers that were said for them after they had performed all the necessary customary rites.

The team set off from Donkorkrom around 6:30pm to their next destination. Everything seemed fine until at about 8pm, when they encountered a spine chilling storm for about an hour with their boat almost capsizing in the process.

“Water started to fill our vessel: which filled our souls with great fear and distraught”

“Water started to fill our vessel: which filled our souls with great fear and distraught” one of the team members who was visibly shaken said.

We understood what the Disciples might have felt when they encountered the life-threatening storm recorded in the Bible. The difference however was that Jesus was not physically present to say “Peace Be Still” in this case

“We understood what the Disciples might have felt when they encountered the life-threatening storm recorded in the Bible. The difference however was that Jesus was not physically present to say “Peace Be Still” in this case”, Mr. Afriyie Anrah told Ghnewsnow.

In the face of the looming disaster that was hastily brewing, the 2 leaders mustered courage and led the entire team in an intense session of prayers laced with singing of praise and worship songs.

After about an hour and half had passed, according to the account, the storm began to subside gradually.

Upon further consultations with the pilot and some of the Constituency Executives who were all seasoned and experienced sailors, they decided to berth at a nearby Island called Gbadagba from 11:30pm till almost 1:45am, awaiting the storm to fully subside and the dust to settle.

While there, consultations with the experienced crew of sailors and fishermen continued. Considering the movement of the howling winds with attendant thunder and accompanying lightning strikes, they advised the team to vacate their boat and rather seek shelter on the Island.

On hindsight, this advice was not only sound but divine and sage as well. At Gbadagba, they located a Divine Healers Church and decided to spend the night there.

By some twist of fate, it started to rain heavily with loud thunder and ferocious lightning as they had barely settled down in the Temple. It would have been a terrible experience if they had not been advised to vacate the boat. That storm too eventually subsided.

“In the end, we were saved: hale and hearty, safe and sound, home and dry, by the special Grace of God Almighty, to whom we ascribe all honor, adoration, power, praise and thanksgiving forever” the evidently grateful Member of Parliament, Ms. Betty Crosby Mensah said.

At the end of it all, Hon. Elvis stated that: “The reorganization exercise of our great Party and our determination to capture Power come 2024 is a collective task, which would come with sweat, blood, toil and tears and at the expense of personal sacrifice and comfort”.

As encouragement to the supporters present, he added “It always seems impossible till it is done. Where there is a will, there is a way! Keep hope alive- Together we can!” he admonished.
