An African Champions League quarter-final game was temporarily halted over the weekend following the hideous injury of one of the goalkeepers.

Horoya AC lost their goalkeeper Khadim Ndiaye after he suffered a double leg break after colliding with his own team-mate.

The injury to Senegal international Ndiaye followed an attempted slide tackle to clear the ball from goal. Unfortunately team-mate Boubacar Samassekou had the same idea and the incident resulted in the former’s broken legs.

The incident against Wydad Casablanca visibly left Ndiaye’s team-mates stunned as he laid stricken on the floor during their 5-0 defeat. It also left referee Bamlak Tessema, an Ethiopian official, shell shocked.

After being attended to on the pitch, he was finally carried off on a stretcher.

The club confirmed on Sunday that Ndiaye had undergone surgery in Rabat.

‘The results are reassuring and he will remain at the Cheick Zaidi University hospital where he will continue his recovery,’ Horoya announced on social media.

Horoya declined to release information about the length of his recovery period.

In an act of good faith though, the Guinean outfit have extended his contract to provide him with some more security.

The 34-year-old’s contract was due to end this year but the club ‘wanted to ensure his immediate future by extending his contract for three years from today (14 April).’

Thankfully, Ndiaye is now feeling ‘good’ as there was no open fracture.

“I feel very good, fortunately there is no open fracture. I thank the club and my teammates for their support” he said in a statement.

“I woke up confident and quiet, one thing in my head… Thank the good God” Ndiaye added.
