Pope John SHS Suspends Two ‘Gay’ Students

Two students of Pope John Senior High School in Koforidua, Eastern region, have been suspended indefinitely for allegedly engaging in homosexuality.

The decision was taken by the disciplinary committee of the well-respected all boys senior high school after the two students suspected of practicing the illegal act were also accused of initiating other students.

An official of the Ghana Educational Service and a teacher in the school have both confirmed the incident on condition of anonymity to Starr FM’s Eastern regional correspondent Kojo Ansah.

Information gathered by Starr News indicates that over 19 students were investigated by authorities of the school but the two students became the grand suspects, hence their suspension.

According to the GES official, investigation is still underway with the involvement of their parents adding that punitive measures would be taken if the suspected students are found culpable.

Headmistress of the School, Benedicta Foli speaking to Starr News said it is an internal issue which will be resolved internally.

She failed to confirm or deny the story adding that issues concerning the school will not be discussed publicly.

Ghana’s laws are silent on the punishment for homosexuality but the society abhors such acts. People caught in such acts are sometimes manhandled and publicly shamed.
