AUDIO: Politicians Are Behind Galamsey Activities In Ghana- Otumfuo

Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has disclosed that  politicians are responsible for the destruction of large tracks of arable lands in the country by illegal miners known in local parlance as galamsey operators.

He accused the politicians of pursuing their clandestine interest to the neglect of the citizenry by failing to enforce laws to minimize the effects of activities of illegal mining in the country.

According to him, politicians are afraid they could lose votes in attempt to enforce such mining laws in the country for which reason their supporters have taken undue advantage of the situation to destroy the land with impunity.

He observed that lack of employment opportunities in the country among the youth is also a motivational factor most young people are engaged in small scale mining which he believes requires serious regulatory backing.

Addressing officials at the commissioning of Asanko Gold Mine at Manso Nkran in the Ashanti Region, the Asante King appealed to the Minister in charge of lands and natural resource Nii Osa Mills to save Ghana from the disastrous effects of illegal mining.
