Tafo Clashes: Police To Review Curfew Hours

One person has been confirmed dead following clashes between some irate youth and traditional authorities at Old Tafo a suburb of the Kumasi in the Ashanti Region.

Deputy Ashanti Regional Police Commander ACP AmpofoDuku, who disclosed this to the media during a visit to the scene on Thursday, added that 25-year old Amidu Sulemana died as a result of multiple stab wounds he sustained in the heat of the clashes.

According to him, the Regional Security Committee (REGSEC) is currently reviewing the situation and if necessary, the curfew in the area will be extended to ensure that the tension in the area is doused.

He stated that security has been stepped up in the area and urged residents to adhere to security directives in order not to fall foul of the law.

Meanwhile, a 34-year shoe maker has been arrested in an attempted arson in troubled area.

The shoe maker attempted burning down a local church in the area but the security officials at the time rose to the occasion and got him arrested.

There is currently an uneasy calm in the area with most shops in the Tafo Township remained closed while residents are reluctant to go out to work for fear the situation could escalate.
