Girl, 10, With Closed Vagina Appeals For Help

A ten-year-old girl with fused vagina in the New Juaben Municipality of the Eastern region is appealing for help to undergo surgery.

Christiana, has her labia minora stuck together, leaving a very small opening of the vagina. Due to the condition of the girl, urinating has become difficult as urine gets trapped inside the membrane, which sometimes results in infection and irritation of the skin and lining of the vagina.

The urine trapped in her vagina sometimes leaks out after she gets off the toilet, wetting her pants.There is also a possibility of repeated bladder infections if the defect is not corrected immediately.


Christiana has been diagnosed at the Koforidua Government Hospital and has been put on estrogen vaginal cream.

The cream has been applied for over two months but no positive sign has occurred. Medical Doctors at the facility have therefore recommended surgery to be performed.

Guardian of the class three pupil, Patience Dornyo, is appealing to the general public to assist financially to enable the girl undergo surgery.

In an interview with Starr News’ Eastern regional correspondent Kojo Ansah, Dornyo said she cannot foot the medical bills for the surgery hence her public appeal.
